Subject: Probing with Mach 3
Tom,
I am having servo amp problems and weighing my options. One question I have is can I still using Mach 3's G31 probing feature if I use the KFlop in an open feedback mode with Vipers/Geckos? How does Mach 3 know where the probe is? Does it just give the step/direction commands so "slow" that it takes for granted that when the probe feedback occurs the probe is where the last step told it to go? This is a home mill, how much accuracy will be lost if I go open KFlop feedback mode and allow the Vipers/Geckos to close the control? The AMC servo amps are in the $350 range a piece. That adds up to more then the project budget.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi  Chris,

Regarding probing:  Yes it assumes the commanded position is the actual position.  If the servo is working well the difference should be small at moderate speeds.

I can't say anything regarding Vipers/Geckos.  It should be possible to make them accurate.
